Pit Bulls - Breeders - History
Bull baiting was a spectacular and very cruel sport. A bull meant for slaughter was brought to the market to be attacked by Pit Bulls. The brutal practice of bull baiting was abolished in 1835 as a result of a public protest. However, dog fighting replaced the bull baiting for those interested in such public entertainment. The dog fighting was regarded inferior to the bull baiting, as the bull baiting was primarily entertainment for royalty, while dog fighting was not so spectacular and privileged. Special trainers prepare Pit Bulls for their fighting career by keeping them hungry and making them angry. Fighting dogs with serious injuries are forced to keep on fighting. Dog fighting is illegal and is banned in most states. Still, Pit Bulls are often bred for one purpose only-dog fighting. The Pit Bull breeds' history plays a significant role in their fortunes nowadays, as well. Because of their notorious history of fierce fighters, they are banned in some countries. There is no denying, the Pit Bull is a fighter by its nature. This fact shouldn't be ignored. Those who claim that Pitt Bull breeds are extremely dangerous and unreasonable to deal with are as wrong as those who deny that these dogs might be aggressive if not properly treated. Pit Bulls - Breeders - RecognitionThere is some considerable misunderstanding in differentiation between the Pit Bull strains and no unique belief concerning what Pit Bull breed to consider the standard one. The UKC recognized the Bull-and-Terrier Dog as the American Pit Bull Terrier in 1898. The AKC has not recognized the American Pit Bull Terrier breed, as originally, it was bred not for conformation shows, but as a working dog meant to participate in dog fighting. Instead, the AKC recognized American Pit Bull Terriers as Staffordshire Terriers as far back as 1936.
